Facilitating HIBAR Research Projects Across Disciplines and Sectors
The “Facilitating HIBAR” Collaborative Action Group (CAG) aims to catalyze the creation of new HIBAR research projects, in particular by promoting collaborations among university researchers and individuals in external organizations, including industry, government, non-profit organizations, civil society, and communities of practice. Activities supported by this CAG will encourage and enable the formation of new HIBAR projects, and will help to strengthening the understanding that an increased focus on cross-disciplinary HIBAR collaborations will not decrease the focus on basic research.
This CAG launched the HRA’s webinar series, which offer a valuable forum for research leaders to share their experiences related to a variety of aspects of HIBAR projects. These webinars provides a great opportunity for us to connect with the members of the HRA community on a regular basis, and also to reach new audiences.
Following each webinar, we highlight actionable advice and insights shared by the speakers, in the form of very short (~1-min) videos. We have made this unique collection available here on our website, and we share one specific video each week via a mailout to subscribers of our “Tuesday Takeaway” mailing list, and via LinkedIn.
It is recognized that new HIBAR projects often have difficulty accessing research funding, since their integrative nature combining both basic and applied research often means that these projects do not easily fit into funding programs that are aimed specifically at either basic or applied projects. This CAG is exploring ways to reduce this barrier to new projects, by sharing funding opportunities and exploring ideas for a seed funding program specifically intended to encourage HIBAR projects.
The CAG also aims to organize activities to help connect people across sectors and disciplines, with the intent that these cross-sector discussions could lead to new HIBAR research collaborations.
Key ongoing activities of the CAG are aimed at connect people across campuses and sectors, with the intent that these cross-disciplinary discussions could lead to new HIBAR research collaborations. These include:
- Sharing inspiring examples of HIBAR projects and related initiatives;
- Developing and sharing actionable advice;
- Identifying and sharing upcoming funding opportunities that are particularly well suited for supporting HIBAR research;
- Organizing cross-sectoral meetings and events to generate new connections among researchers who would not typically have the opportunity to work together
